Check List for Pagham Harbour |
REPORT by Peter HancockWe had a great day. The group split into two sections. The list (to the left) reflects the total number of species seen during the day. Those birds marked in black were seen by both groups. Those in red were only seen by the group led by Derek and Bob, whilst those in blue were those birds only seen by the group led by Simon and Mike. There were a number of highlights, different members of the group having their own favourites. The Short-eared owl was quite a sight, staying in view and quartering up and down the harbour scaring the waders for over 15 minutes. The 100+ Little egrets, counted by Bob, were spectacular. The Grey plovers were great to look at in detail. The grebes also drew a lot of attention. The gannets occasionally came close enough to see their majestic effortless flight and the black tips to their wings. And, to round it all off, the group met, at the end of the fieldtrip to give Ashley his prize for the Summer web competition. |
