REPORT BY Pete Hancock

A warm and blowy day. Our start at 10:00 began with a rush: Green Woodpecker, Linnet, and Garden Warbler all showing well within minutes of each other.

The Phoenix members took the “low-road” heading down the hill—a hot and sticky stroll into the valley and slog up to the hill fort. The Wildlife Explorers took the “high-road” around the top to the fort.

Collectively we saw 42 species of bird, rabbits hares, a mole,  a lizard , a wide range of bugs, butterflies and moths and some beautiful orchids.

The highlight, for many of us, was seeing  the Duke of Burgundy fritillary.
