Wildlife Explorers Open Evening

16th November 2006

We  have seen a drop in membership over the past few months. To try and encourage more youngsters to join the group we put on an open-evening.

Our group (for children 8-13 years) has been a success since being formed in 2000. To try and ensure the groups' survival a recruitment drive is taking place involving the open evening on November 16th.

The evening comprised  an brief introduction by the leader of the group (Derek Lister) followed by a brief talk on the latest campaign from the RSPB “Save the Albatross”. This was followed with quizzes, Bird nest box building, Birds of Prey demonstrations and a short film.

The evening was a great success with 62 youngsters turning up (plus their Mums and Dads, Grans and Granddads, Aunts and Uncles!!).

We hope there was something for everyone during the evening and everyone enjoyed themselves.  We all look forward to welcoming new members to the group.

Our group members are the future of conservation, birding and appreciation of the UK’s Wildlife. One of the present members even has his own website .

Have a look, this website oozes enthusiasm and if you are one of those who thinks that today's youngsters are only interested in Playstation, X box and Nike trainers think again!!
