The Lake District:

a little birding over Christmas ‘06.

Have you gone on holiday, not expressly to do birdwatching, but nevertheless you’ve had your eyes open and thought you had seen quite a lot. Well this often happens to us—but this time we decided to keep a record of what we saw.

We were based on Rossthwaite, in the Lake District, just south of Keswick. We had poor weather—low clouds, driving rain, bad visibility. But we went out for daily walks across the beautiful hills and around the lakes—mainly to work off all those extra calories we had added to our waists (due to Christmas fayre!).

The list below is not bad, considering the conditions. Did any of you make any lists of birds that you saw over the Christmas holidays?
